There was love in the air this week in the run up to Mother’s Day. The children were all enthusiastic to create hand made cards to surprise their Mummies and it is great to see how many of the preschool children could write their names independently. Many children talked about where they would hide their cards at home in readiness for Sunday. However, there was less enthusiasm for giving away the coffee cakes they made for their Mummy in this week’s cooking session, with many children thinking up excuses for why they should eat the cake instead. One creative child went so far as asking his Mummy at pick up, “Are you allergic to coffee cake?”
In our circle time sessions the children talked about their Mummies and discussed the things that she likes. Some of the responses were very sweet such as “Mummy likes snuggles in bed” and others were rather random – “Mummy likes tomatoes”. One child was very confident in his answer when he stood up and declared to the rest of his group “my Mummy just likes me!”
In the art room on Friday the children tried their hand at still life drawings and the focus was of a vase full of red tulips. The children examined the flowers and carefully drew what they could see with a number of them taking great care to draw the details like petals and leaves. A few of these have been installed into our new art gallery in the nursery library.
Next week on Tuesday our school photographer Brett Lenman will be here taking group photos for the preschool children (Poppies, Daffodils and Tulips only). The theme of the photograph is a teddy bear’s picnic and each child will need to bring their favourite teddy to join them. Children who are not attending will need to be dropped off and collected promptly to ensure they do not miss out on their group’s photograph. This will be a lovely keepsake of your child’s time here at Mount Carmel.
Next week’s sound is ‘h’ for hat and house.
