Mount Carmel Kindergarten is very much a family concern. We started the nursery school at our home in St Albans city centre in 1985. Since then our school has grown and we have moved twice. We are now happily settled in our purpose-built premises in Sandpit Lane which we designed ourselves.
Our principal, Lucia, is a mother of 10 children who has considerable parenting experience. She has a degree in Educational Studies as well as the Early Years Professional Status Qualification. Lucia works alongside her husband Franco who deals with the administration. In addition, her daughter Gabriella and son Roberto also work in the nursery school and are both qualified and have vast experience in Early Years.
Running a business whilst raising a large family has made us appreciate the pressures on family life in the 21st century. We view parents as the child’s first educators and work closely with them to achieve the best possible outcomes. We aim to help every child move on to infant school with learning readiness, independence and excellent social skills.
Most families hear about us through local recommendation. We have an excellent reputation with both state and private schools for the social and academic preparedness of all our children. In addition, we regularly have applications from abroad and have a great deal of experience with bi-lingual children. We welcome the infusion of other cultures, with the languages and traditions which they bring to the school.
The name “Mount Carmel Kindergarten” was chosen in honour of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, who is also known as Mary the Mother of God. Mary understood the joys and difficulties of being a parent and her love for her son Jesus has been an inspiration to us. Our Christian ethos is reflected in a natural and spontaneous way throughout the nursery school. Children from all faiths and cultures are most welcome as diversity enriches the children’s learning.
